Matt James, the former drummer with Gene, has a new single – ‘Sea Of Trouble’ – out today. It’s a quite lovely, poignant song stemming from a swirl of emotions precipitated by the loss of his sister; the sting of bereavement tempered by the need to carry on, to simply survive. Matt is accompanied by John Hornig of The Longshore Drifters on pedal steel, and Umbrellabird Alex Hunt on piano, and the whole is imbued with a simple but profound wisdom redolent of Bill Fay.
It’s his first release since 2022’s highly recommended Breaking The Fall album. Purchase here.
