‘Holiday Song’ is, surprisingly, the debut solo single from Jim Sclavunos. Best known these days as a Bad Seed – joining in the mid-90s – he boasts a long and storied career, taking in stints with Sonic Youth, and various Lydia Lunch-fronted ensembles, notably Teenage Jesus & The Jerks. He’s also played with Marianne Faithfull, The Cramps, and Mark Stewart, produced Gogol Bordello, Beth Orton, and The Jim Jones Revue, and led the criminally under-appreciated Vanity Set.
For ‘Holiday Song’ on which he takes lead vocals and plays celesta; he’s joined by Spider Stacy on tin whistle, Terry Edwards on fluegelhorn, Dave Sherman on piano, and Sarah Lowe on backing vocals. Nick Cave calls ‘Holiday Song’ a “beautiful and complex song and a sweet and generous offering. Really beautiful and true to the bone!” The single is available now and all proceeds from its sale for the entire month of January will be donated to the Grassroots Music Venue Crisis Fund set up by the Music Venue Trust.

The Music Venue Trust is a UK Registered Charity set up to protect and secure UK grassroots music venues. Due to the dedication and generosity of so many people, the MVT has been able to support close to a thousand Music Venue Alliance members since the pandemic forced venues to close their doors earlier last year. The MVT’s work will continues, as they remain determined to re-open every venue safely, and thus far has raised a grand total of £3,872,512. This money has been essential in giving venues the human and financial support they need to ride out this crisis until such time that the sector can re-open.
